Farm Mechanic – Cherylton

 

Location: Kojonup, WA
Full-time

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and pre-season servicing of on-farm machinery.

Working closely with the Management Team, you will ensure all machinery is maintained to a high standard and assist with the implementation of new equipment as needed. The role also involves liaising with dealers for parts.

Key responsibilities include the servicing, maintenance, and pre-season preparation of all farm machinery and equipment. This includes (but is not limited to) machinery used for planting/sowing, spraying, spreading, and harvesting. The aggregation operates with a fleet of modern machinery and an on-site workshop.

Previous mechanical experience in agriculture or broadacre farming is essential. A formal mechanical qualification will be highly regarded.

Sound computer skills are required, as the role involves working with systems and electronically reporting activities. Managing operational expenditures within budget is also a key responsibility.

The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of workplace health and safety practices, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective communication and planning skills.

Program Overview

The Excel Farms Graduate Program is designed to provide a broad exposure to all facets of modern agribusiness through strategic placements across our farming operations and corporate office. The graduate will rotate through:

On-Farm Experience

You’ll be placed at two Excel Farms, located on the East Coast and West Coast of Australia, participating in key agricultural activities during peak periods. These rotations include:

  • Seeding Season: Gain firsthand experience in preparing and planting broadacre crops using advanced machinery and GPS-guided systems.
  • In Crop Management: Learn the principles and practices of spraying, spreading, and fertilisation, while supporting plant health and productivity.
  • Harvest Operations: Be an integral part of the harvest team, focusing on logistics, grain quality, safety procedures, and post harvest analysis.

Corporate Experience – Based in Ararat, Victoria

The graduate will also complete a placement at our corporate head office in Ararat, Victoriagaining insight into the business and strategic side of agriculture, including:

  • Business and financial management
  • Budget planning and reporting
  • Grain marketing strategy and logistics
  • WHS systems and compliance
  • Asset and resource management
  • Project based initiatives

Throughout the year, you’ll also support projects requiring research, coordination, reporting and communication, contributing meaningfully to real business outcomes.

Program Inclusions

Participants in the program will receive:

  • A 12-month full-time contract
